Penbryn Beach - 1mile there and back
Penbryn is an unspoilt, rural, 1-mile-long sandy beach managed by the National Trust.
The pay and display car park, shop/café and toilets (open summer only) are about 500 metres from the beach along an access road.
The alternative scenic way to the beach is a path with steep steps in places through the woods above a tumbling stream.
From the car park the path leads down to a bridge over the stream and then back up the other side.
Turning right at the top the path leads you downstream. After a few yards you can turn left and detour up the St Michaels church. A little further you have the choice of going straight on, along the top of the valley and on to the coastal path above the beach, or taking the right fork downhill above the stream to the beach.
The coastal woodland, twisted and gnarled trees, ferns and "mother-in-law’s tongues” are magnificent.
At the bottom of the path crosses the stream on a wooden bridge and re-joins the road turning circle at the beach.
Enjoy the beach and return to the car either the same way or take the slightly easier option up the road.
