Dog Friendly Information

Dogs are welcome but they need to be able to get up & down steep steps. It is probably best to keep them on a lead for their safety and that of other visitors.

Devil's Bridge

Afon Mynach (Monks River) makes a dramatic descent, over spectacular waterfalls at Devil’s Bridge.

Devils Bridge has attracted many thousands of visitors over the years, including William Wordsworth who wrote about the "Torrent at the Devil's Bridge".

There are two walks to choose from: both include steep steps
1. NATURE TRAIL, WATERFALLS & 3 BRIDGES.  This walk takes minimum of 45 minutes.
2. PUNCHBOWL & 3 BRIDGES This walk is easier and only takes 10 minutes.

Devils bridge is in fact, three separate bridges built on top of each other across the River Mynach.
"According to legend, the original bridge was built by the very Devil himself, as it was too difficult for mortals to build. The Devil agreed to build the bridge in exchange for the soul of the first living being to cross the bridge. However, he was tricked of his prize by a canny old woman, who threw bread across the bridge, which her dog ran after, thus becoming the first living being to cross the new bridge. Devil's Bridge Falls.”

The Waterfalls and Punchbowl are open all year. Tearooms & Gift shop at entrance to walks During the winter refreshments and food are available from the Hafod Hotel opposite the exit to the waterfalls walk.

The Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway runs from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge.  The historic narrow-gauge railway is one of the best ways to visit Devil’s Bridge.  The station is only a short walk from the Falls and is ideal for a short visit to the Falls.

The Devil’s Bridge area was once part of the vast 18th century Hafod Estate owned by Thomas Johnes, tourist attraction for centuries, Devil’s Bridge was celebrated by author George Borrow in his book Wild Wales (1854).
