Coed Maen Arthur "exquisite walk with magical moments”

We stopped for lunch at Cwtch Tea Room Pont Rhyd-y-Groes is a small village on the B4343 north of Tregaron.  Bought a walk book and did this walk which was from the doorstep and is definitely in our top 10 walks list.

The description, 2.5 miles in 2 hours should have given us a clue, this walk is intense in terms of scenery and effort!

But don’t worry the steep bits are not compulsory and you can still get to see the fantastic Yswyth River falls and forestry paths.

The walk starts just to the left of Cwtch opposite the water mill wheel, signposted to the Miners Bridge.  After crossing the bridge turn left along the forest track.  On your left there are detours off the track down to the river.  Take these they provide wonderful views of The Ystwyth tumbling down through the rocky gorge.

Then after about ¾ mile follow a path uphill off the forestry track.  On your left will be a stream and near the top of the hill it provides a lovely waterfall. At the top of the hill there are wonderful views across the valley, back to Pont-rhyd-y-groes and inland to the Cambrian Mountains. 

Follow the path back to your right along the brow of the hill and thenhead back downhill to The Miners Bridge.

Pont-rhyd-y-groes sits on the south bank, adjacent to the bridge over the Ystwyth River. Its name comes from Welsh words pont (bridge) rhyd (ford) groes (cross or junction). As you enter the village from the south there is a lay by and information board. 

Further along the road to the north is a turn sharp left before the bridge over the Ystwyth River.  A few yards after this turn is an old working water mill wheel and information board. Nearby is a community shop and café, Cwtch,
