Dryslwyn Castle Carmarthenshire
Dryslwyn Castle is a native Welsh castle, sited on a hill roughly halfway between Llandeilo and Carmarthen on the B4297.
There is a car park and picnic site on the banks of River Towy below. The castle is accessed by a footpath, across the road from the car park, which winds its way up the hill.
Dryslwyn Castle It is a Grade I listed building that not only occupies a place of great affection in the minds and traditions of the Welsh people but also a majestic hilltop location above the Towy valley.
Built probably in the 1220s by the princes of Deheubarth (such as Rhys Gryg), Dryslwyn was, with its near neighbour at Dinefwr, for a long time central to the security of the kingdom.
It was apparently assaulted in 1246, there was a lengthy period of expansion in the late thirteenth century and was demolished in the early 15th Century, in an attempt to stop Welsh rebels using it.
Associated nearby castles are Dinefwr (6 miles) and Carreg Cennen Castle (9 miles).
The Mill holiday cottage is a luxury barn conversion.
The Byre holiday cottage is a single storey barn conversion.
