Brechfa Forest :  Dog friendly walks along forest paths

Park in the Forestry Commission car park in Abergorlech, there are signs and guides to both the footpaths and the mountain bike trails.  We chose the 3.5 mile Gorlech trail, about 2 hours. There are other choices The Riverside Walk 1 mile, or The Forest Garden Walk, 5 miles.
  
There is a fine totem pole style carving at the start of the walk. The paths all share the first section of the walk which level and gentle and follows the Gorlech River.  Abergorlech means mouth or end of the Gorlech River and the village marks the point where The Gorlech River joins The Cothi River.
                                              
After ½ mile you reach the arched bridge over the river and the Gorlech footpath turns left up a steep climb.  For the riverside walk, cross the bridge and return to the car park on the other side of the river.  Our dogs, who enjoying running free through woodlands, were having a wonderful time.

After about another mile of peaceful walking through magnificent woodland we were faced with a choice carry on to The Forest Garden or turn back.  We opted to turn back downhill across the river bridge and back to the car park. 

Ready for lunch we turned right out of the car park and walked a few yards up the road to the Black Lion Inn for refreshments.  The pub has an excellent garden overlooking The Cothi River pub.  If you prefer indoor comfort and a warm by the fire do not worry dogs are allowed in the pub, on a lead. 

Bird watchers will be interested to know that from the beer garden we spotted dippers on the river below.
