Walking the Cerdigion Coastal path, Borth to Ynyslas
Holiday cottage owners Mick & Julie's New Years resoution was to walk the 60 mile long Ceredigion Coastal path in sections during 2013. The idea is to be able to advise holiday cottage guests how best to enjoy coastal walking holidays from Stallion Valley holiday cottages.

On Monday 21st January 2013 we tackled the 4.5 mile section from Borth to Ynylas along with our 3 dogs. We cheated a little by planning our walk at low tide and starting it from the northern outskirts of Borth near the golf club.  This reduced the round trip to about 6 miles.

The weather forecast was wrong! There was no sun and there was a very cold North wind in our faces.

At low tide we were able to walk along a huge dog friendly beach from Borth to the nature reserve and sand dunes at Ynyslas. Once we got walking we soon warmed up and the dogs had a great time on the massive expanse of Borth beach, which is interspaced with wooden groynes. At low tide tree stumps, are evidence of a time when sea levels were lower and this area was covered by forest.

In the sunny May 2013 photos you can see Borth the beach at high tide and sandy Ynysllas at the mouth of the river Dovey. Beyond is the Dovey River estuary and across the river the village of Aberdovey.

Back in January the back drop was the snow covered mountains of Snowdonia beyond. With a north wind in our faces we did not linger to explore the Ynyslas nature reserve, sand dunes, sheltered estuary and closed café.  It was a relief to turn around and walk the 3 miles back to our car with the wind at our backs.

This was easy walk, with beautiful scenery and bracing sea air which gave us a healthy appetite for a hearty late lunch. Our 3 tired dogs enjoyed their romp on a huge dog friendly beach and an afternoon nap.
