Stallion Valley holiday cottages to Llandovrey

A road trip day out from Stallion Valley holiday cottages to Llandovrey and back via valleys, lakes, forests and mountains.

From Prengwyn head North towards Lampeter along the A475.

After about 4 miles enter the village of Drefach and turn right sp Llanybydder along the B4338.

Turn right at the T junction and drive over the Teifi River into Llanybydder, continue on past the market square and at the cross roads turn left s.p.LampeterA485.  Llanybydder has a horse market, said to be the biggest in Europe on the last Thursday of each month.

Follow the A485 about 4 miles with The Teifi River on your left to Cwmanne, turn right on to the A482 and note the dragon sculpture on the side wall of the pub.  The Cwnanne Tavarn (SA48 8DR) is steeped in history, a 16th century Inn on a former drovers route. 

Drive about 5/6 miles to the village of Pumsaint, passing Springwater Lakes (SA19 8DT).  Fishermen will be interested in the 4 lakes one specimen, 2 course and 1 fly.

As you leave the village of Pumsaint turn left s.p. Cwrt y Cadno and Dolaucothi goldmine. (SA19 8US)

Follow the road about 3 miles along the river Cothi to Cwrt y Cadno, originally part of The Dolaucothi Estate with a fine Methodist Chapel.

Continue along the road about 5 miles to a junction on your left, opposite a pub The Towy Bridge Inn, (SA20 0PE) a good refreshments stop.
      
Turn left and cross the bridge over the River Towy.  Follow this road sp Ystradffin/ to Brianne reservoir.

As you approach the lake you will see Dinas Bird Reserve which has walks along the cascading River Towy.

Llyn Brianne (SA20 0PG) the reservoir was built in the 1960’s to supply water to the South Wales valleys. The Upper Towy Valley and Llyn Brianne is one of the most beautiful areas of Wales a wonderful area for bird watching, fishing, mountain biking and walking

Leaving Llyn Brianne return along the road you came along through Ystraffin, but do not cross the Towy River at Towy bridge continue along the road to Llandovery  (10 miles). At the T junction in Llandovery turn right and then left then right again into the car park near the castle.

Llandovery (SA20 0AW) Llandovery is an old drover town.  At its peak 30,000 animals were sent to London each year.  Near the car park is a castle, a striking stainless steel statue of Lord Llwelyn and the Llandovery Heritage and Tourist Information centre.  Close by is the town centre, cobbled market square, 13th century church, craft centre shops, pubs and cafes.

Leaving the car park turn right and follow the signs for Llandielo A40.

After about 3 miles turn right at Llanwrda A482 s.p. Lampeter.

Follow this road along the river Dulais and after about 5 miles turn left onto the B4302 (pub on corner).

After ¾ mile turn right s.p. Llansawel

After 2 miles when you enter lLnsawel village turn right sp B4337 Rhydcymerau (3 miles)

As you leave Rhydcymerau turn left sp Llanllwn follow this road 5 Miles) through Brechfa Forest.  There are world class mountain bike trails in the forest and wonderful woodland walks.
      
Carry on across Llanybydder and Llanllwni mountains to the T junction with the A485 at Llanllwni.

Llanllwni Mountain, This is a wild open common with some great waking and wind turbines on the horizon.  More wind turbines are planned but there is a strong protest movement against them.

Carry on across Llanybydder and Llanllwni mountains to the T junction with the A485 at Llanllwni.

Turn left and then right B4336 through Llanfihangel  ar arth to Llandysul 4 miles. 

Carry on along the Llandysul by pass and turn right s.p. New Quay at the roundabout.

At Horeb turn right onto the A475 towards Lampeter .

In 2 miles re-enter Prengwyn.
