Dinefwr, landscaped park walks

November 2014 we set off to use our new National Trust membership to Dinefwr near Llandeilo over the border into Carmarthenshire to see the castle and to visit Castle Woods Nature reserve, a great spot for bird watching.

We recommend Dinefwr to all our holiday cottage guests, aside from the above is a wonderful landscaped estate and a superb period house.

Dinefwr is a National Nature Reserve the only designated parkland NNR in the whole of Wales because of its woodland is home to some of the oldest trees in Britain. It has rare breed white cattle, a 12th-century Welsh castle, historic house and 18th-century Landscape Park, enclosing a medieval deer park

Explore one of the most beautiful man-made landscapes in Britain. Established in the late 18th century, it's the creation of George Rice and his wife Cecil, with additions by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

There are sign posted walks from the car park, around the Dinefwr estate, and Castle Woods nature reserve. Whether you're interested in wildlife, history or just want a peaceful walk with spectacular views, particularly from the Castle.

Car parking is £3 for the day in the National Trust car park on the estate.  Entrance to the grounds, the Castle and Castle Woods nature reserve is free.  The visit the house is extra.
