Coastal path walking: Porthgain to Abereiddy
Rated a top 10 UK walk by The Gaurdian in 2010 this 4 mile walk has excellent coastal scenery, history, A National Trust site, 2 harbours and 2 beaches.
Start from the picturesque harbour village of Porthgain. Once the site of and port for slate & granite quarries and then a brick works, today for fishing, diving and tourists.
Start the walk along the South side of the harbour alongside the brick hoppers and climb the seps up past the white building to the coastal path.
The path follows the coastal path past the harbour entrance marker stone on the cliff edge and the old quarry buildings. Admire the wonderful rugged high cliffs.
At low tide you will see Traeth Lyfn a beach accessed by steep steps far below.
The path continues and wonderful views open up to Abereiddy Beach to your left and The Blue Lagoon slate Quarry to you right.
The path zig-zags down to Aberreiddy with a detour to the blue lagoon, beware of steep drops. This section is owned by the National Trust and passes the remains of old quarry workers cottages.
There are toilets and usually in summer, an ice cream van to greet you down at the beach. Here you have choices, a bus back to Porthgain, follow the sign-posted footpath inland back to Porthgain or retrace your footsteps back along the cliffs.
