Stallion Valley holiday cottage West Wales, Ceredigion

Are grey squirrels vermin or just cute?
Here at Stallion Valley holiday cottages in West Wales we have lots of wildlife including grey squirrels.
They have been a nuisance eating more than their fair share from the bird feeders in the holiday cottage gardens and stealing our chicken food. We have had to buy a steel cabinet to keep the chicken food in, as the squirrels ate through the plastic one!
Apparently squirrels belong to a large family of small or medium-sized rodents called the Sciuridae which includes chipmunks, marmots and prairie dogs. The collective name for a group of squirrels is a Scurry, males are called Bucks, females are called Does and the name of a squirrels' nest is a drey.
Grey squirrels are immigrants and have ousted our native red Squirrels. There are a few rural areas in Britain were there are projects to expand our remaining population of red squirrels. The nearest to Stallion valley holiday cottages is in the Tywi Forest, in the Cambrian Mountains on the eastern borders of Ceredigion.
Having said all that negative stuff about grey squirrels don’t you just have to admit this one photographed in a Stallion Valley holiday cottage garden is cute?
