Walking the Cereigion Coastal path, West Wales : Gwbert to Mwnt

Holiday cottage owners Mick & Julie's New Year's resolution was to walk the 60 mile long Ceredigion Coastal path in sections during 2013. The idea is to be able to advise holiday cottage guests how best to enjoy coastal walking holidays from Stallion Valley holiday cottages and to make regular entries on The Stallion Valley holiday cottage blog.

On Tuesday we walked the 3.5 mile section from Gwbert to Mwnt beach along with our 3 dogs. This section is perhaps the least attractive as the path detours away from the coast due to an access dispute. Over half of the walk is along country lanes.

We parked the car at the viewpoint car park in Gwbert. The weather was dry and we made good time with the dogs straining on their leads.

At the village of Ferwig the path turns off onto a dead lane through a farm yard and onto a bridle path, which was very muddy following a wet winter. It was relief to reach the footpath along the cliff tops and to be able to let our dogs off the lead for the final half mile walk to Mwnt beach.

The Ceredigion coast and beaches are world class have superb views and are a haven for wildlife. Today we did not see seals or dolphins but they are often spotted from the cliff tops near Mwnt.

Mwnt beach is owned by the National Trust, the headland overlooks a remote sandy beach. There are toilets,a pay & display car park and a beautiful 15th century church.

We enjoyed our walk, despite the road section and on our return were ready the enjoy a cup of and ticking off another 3 miles, 10 down and  50 to go on our walk with our dogs along The Ceredigion Coastal path.
