Hatching chickens over the last week

We have been hatching chickens over the last week or so, replacements for some of older birds. 

Watching them hatch is mesmerising, minutes turn into hours and before you know it the day has gone.

They battle to break the shell, emerge stretch out and then within about 30 minutes fluff up to about 4 times the size of an egg.

Already about a week old now they are growing feathers and making one heck of a mess!

Next year they will be producing fresh free range eggs for holiday cottage guests.
