A wonderful day out to Dolaucothi Gold Mines

We took advantage of the sun today and had a local day out to The National Trust owned Dolaucothi Gold Mines near Lampeter. (More details)

The dogs came with us as the site is dog friendly, except for the fact that they were not allowed underground, but who wants to go there when the sun is shining!

Romans once mined for gold near Lampeter, at Pumpsaint. The site of the old gold mine is now managed by the National Trust and visitors will get an insight how gold miners worked from Roman times up to the 20th century ending in 1938.

These unique gold mines are set amid wooded hillsides overlooking the beautiful Cothi Valley. There are beautiful woodland walks with information boards to explore the extensive site.

Julie was tempted by the rare Welsh gold jewellery in the shop but in the end settled for a bacon butty so I saved a penny or two!
