Red Kite spectacular - Ceredigion, West Wales

 

On Wednesday we decided to take our holiday cottage guests recommendation and went to see the red kite feeding at Bwlch Nant yr Arian. 

 

We have never been before as we have red kites and lots of other bird watching here on the doorsteps of our holiday cottages near Llandysul.

 

We were amazed it is really spectacular.  Bwlch Nant yr Arian is run by The Forestry Commission, it has wonderful views across the mountains, lakes, forest, footpaths and mountain bike trails.  Very dog friendly. All these are wonderful but the Red Kite feeding is a star attraction.

 

Feeding time is at 3pm BST (2pm GMT) and the red kites start gathering in the skies about 2 hours before.  By feeding time there are several hundred performing acrobatics overhead.  The food arrives and it a flurry of aerobatic chaos … words and photos cannot do it justice.

 

West Wales has really great bird watching, mountain birds, sea birds, water fowl, waders and lots of woodland habitats.  Our holiday cottages are at great base to see them all.
