Tawny owl welcomes us home

We have been away from West Wales for a while looking after our daughter, following an operation. 

She is now well on the way to recovery and we came home late on Monday night.
 
We were greeted by a tawny owl caught in our headlights, sitting on the gate post of our enclosed play paddock.

What a wonderful welcome home. 

It flew off before I could get to a camera, so the photo is not mine, but the view is similar. 

We and our holiday cottage guests, often hear the owls hooting at night and have caught occasional glimpses of them in the trees but this was our first up close encounter, a bird watching treat.
