Dragonflies in the mood for love: holiday cottage in Wales
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon today here in West Wales so we sat by the pond in our cottage garden for afternoon tea.
The birds were singing and our dogs were snoozing and we were enjoying watching the fish in the pond when we spotted the dragonflies.
They seemed to be connected, one blue one to a brown one, so we assumed they were making love! Hopefully you can see this in the picture of 4 couples plus some reflections in the water.
We seemed to remember that dragon flies made love, laid eggs and then died. So we thought, at least they died happy!
Anyway I have just done research see link http://www.british-dragonflies.org.uk and it seems that is a myth (as opposed to moth!). Apparently it is May flies that do the business then die!
We also had a look at the dragonfly recognition pages and it seems that our dragonflies are common damselflies not dragonflies. No it’s not what you are thinking, a damselfly is not a female dragonfly it’s a different species.
Well, here at Stallion Valley holiday cottages in Wales, we learn something new every day.
