Cardigan is the main town for southern Ceredigion, and is just 18 miles from Stallion Valley.
It makes a great day out and there stops along the way at Newcastle Emlyn, which has some great antiques shop and a lovely town park by the river with a castle, and/or Cenarth where the River Teifi cascades down salmon leap falls.
Historically Cardigan was a major port and in the year 1176, it hosted the very first truly "national" eisteddfod of Wales. Cardigan Castle was the site of the eisteddfod and was a strategic defence for the important port (the second biggest in Wales) and the river crossing between Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. See photo.
Currently funds are being raised to restore the castle and make the most of its tourist potential. Cardigan has excellent arts and entertainment facilities at the Theatre Mwldan complex an indoor market and lots of shops including Yum Yum sweets, a traditional sweet shop.
Generally this is a a dog friendly day out with plenty of dog friendly cafes and restaurants plus walks along the Teifi River.
The Mill holiday cottage is a luxury barn conversion.
The Byre holiday cottage is a single storey barn conversion.
Stallion Valley has been designed to be properly dog friendly, and has a wide range of dog friendly facilties.
Our holiday cottages in West Wales are an ideal base for exploring The Teifi Valley, Cardigan Bay and Pembrokeshire.
