Below is a copy of our holiday cottage website blog relating to the "Cwm March” name.
For the record, Stallion Valley is only used to brand our the holiday cottage business.  Locally and all of our signage is "Cwm March”

Historic holiday cottage: Welsh place name Cummarch, dated 1342
Cwm March (Stallion Valley) holiday cottages are grade 2 listed and we have tried to maintain many of their historic features.  Researching the history of the old farm has been on our” to do list” for a while. Some recent news has made us realise just how old Cwm March is.

Professor Hywel Wyn Owen, whose area of interest is in historic Welsh place names, contacted us to express concern that we keep the name Cwm March as it has an impressive history:-
"I am writing to you on behalf of the committee of the Welsh Place-Name Society, a society established to conserve and interpret the place-names of Wales.
Our attention was recently drawn to the name Stallion Valley. Your very attractive website makes it clear on one page that Stallion Valley is an English translation of Cwm March. We also note that 'Stallion Valley, Cwm March' is the address you use. The concern my committee expressed is the danger that 'Stalllion Valley' could inadverently be transferred from the name of the site to the name of the valley, and in time replace Cwm March in visitors' usage. You yourselves are no doubt making that distinction.  We simply wish to draw your attention to the need to ensure preservation of the valley name.
It may interest you to know that the name is old: Cummarch 1342-4, Cwm March 1803, Cwmmarch 1819. Furthermore, the name may not necessarily refer to an actual stallion but may well describe the turbulent, vigorous course of the adjacent stream through the valley, and lower down flows into the river Cerdin. Incidentally, such a characteristic explains why March, Marchnant and Marchan appear several times in river names in Wales.”
